SAFETY CROSSINGS.
VALUE IN QUESTION,
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Nov. 9,
The efficacy of pedestrian crossings, of which 6000 have been laid down in London streets as a means of reducing the number of accidents, is called in question by a committee of representatives of all classes of road users set up last year to advise the Minister. The crossings are marked on the roads by sunken steel studs, and their positions are indicated to motorists by “beacons” erected on the pavement. The committee is understood to have recommended the suspension of the work pending an inquiry. The recommendation is under consideration at the Ministry of Transport.
