THE NEW DEAL.
POSITION FOR ADHERENT,
WASHINGTON, Nov. 10. President R-oosevelt has appointed Mr Marriner Eccles, one of Mr Morgenthau’s assistants at the Treasury, to succeed Mr Eugene Black as the President of the Federal Reserve Board. Mr Eccles is classified as a political liberal and a whole-hearted supporter of the New Deal, including the monetary features and the heavy relief spending programme.
In August last President Roosevelt accepted the resignation of Mr Eugene Black, Governor of the Federal Reserve Board, who returned to his former office as Governor of the Federal Reserve Regional Bank, Atlanta. It was understood that Mr Black had long opposed the majority of President Roosevelt’s monetary experiments and wished to resign.
