FIRE IN GORGE.
- DAMAGE TO BUSH,
Passing through the Manawatu Gorge early this afternoon, a resident of Palmerston North noticed an incipient fire adjacent to the railway line and in the midst of some very fine bush. The outbreak had apparently been caused by the discharge of embers from a passing train and it was likely, with a westerly breeze, that a considerable blaze would result. Apart from this aspect, the motorist expressed regret that the beautiful bush was being threatened with serious damage, if not destruction.
