BOWLING.
McGREGOR-AVALKER TOURNEY
Promoted with the purpose of assisting the Manawatu Aero Club in its efforts to raise funds to meet the expenses incurred in connection with its entry in the recent Centenary Air Race, a tournament was conducted at the Manawatu Bowling Club’s green on Saturday. The Pahiatua Club was represented by Peterson, Kershaw, Mills and Gregory, and the two last-named visitors played off for the honour in the leads’ section. The prizes were art union tickets, six being allocated the winners in the two competitions, and at the conclusion of the play the Manawatu president (Mr ,T. B. Gerrand) made the presentations and congratulated the winners and runners-up on their performances. He remarked that the club had been pleased to do some little things to assist the fliers for Messrs McGregor and Walker had undoubtedly placed Palmerston North on the map Mr D. F. Smillie, on behalf of the local Centenary Air Race Committee, returned thanks to the club for the effort they had made. .... The detailed results of the tournament were: — . o Skips.—Porter 3 wins; Kershaw 3 wins, one loss; Peterson, Barnes McDonald, 2 wins 1 loss; ; Kennedy, - wins, 1 draw; Radford Inghs, 1 win, 1 loss, 1 draw; Mason, 1 loss, 2 draws; Preece, 2 losses, 1 draw; Giay, Mills, o losses Leads'—Mills, Oxcnham, 2 wins, one draw; Gregory, Royal PameU, Hook 2 wills, 1 loss; McCulloch, 1 win, 2 draws; Robertson. Christmas, 1 win, 2 losses; Smille, Penketh, 2 losses, 1 draw; Low, 3 losses. In the play-off Oxcnham beat Mills in tilic lends section. i-x. To Mr G. W. Corbridge much oiedit is due for the excellent running of the tourney. , NORTHERN CLUB’S Eh FORT. The Northern Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club also conducted a tournament on Saturday in aid of the local Centenary Air Race Committee, eight rinks taking part in the bowling ney, while the croquet members were also engaged in competition playthe bowling section three of “ heads were played i. and the con elusion of play found the rinks skipped by Morgan and Larcomb on terms with three wins each, but the former adjudged to be the winner on the aggregate points. The detailed results were.— Morgan, Larcombs, 3 wins; Moxon, wWins loss; Sharman, Fenwick, Bryan R inson 1 win 2 los*ses; Stuart, 3 losses. CROQUET RESULTS. Visitors were present from the West Coast and Napier and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent in competition play with the following results: —Goli, Mrs Neilsen; take-off, Mrs Lee; pegging out, Mrs Bryan; angles, Mrs Wibley; crazy hoops, Mrs Femvick ; French, Mrs Dickel; ladder, Mrs Dickel. As a result of the joint effort of the Northern Club, the sum of £5 3s was raised for the fund, the bowlers furnishing £2 12s and the croquet players £2 11s.
