CITY BY-LAWS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln the “Standard” of the 3rd inst. there was an advertisement inserted by the City Council in reference to an amendment of the present bylaws. I have read them and observe that it is proposed to delete the last sentence of clause 7 of by-law No. 1, which reads as follows: “No person shall play at football or any other game or amusement in any of the reserves on Sunday.” . , . , * Now, sir, if this clause is deleted, as proposed, I take it there will be no restraint on sport and play on Sunday —the Lord’s Day. Is the Palmerston North City Council going to try and rob the Almighty of His day? They can’t do it. The children of Israel, His own chosen people, tried it, but what was the result? You have only to look up your Bible and see the judgments that came upon them. God is unchangeable and wdiat can we look for when we take it upon ourselves to rebel against His Commandments. If He spared not His own chosen people what can we look for ? God forbids that we should forget that there is an eternity in front of us, and whither are we travelling—in tlie broad or the narrow way? For Heaven or Hell? Sir,' it’s easy to go down but hard to go up.— Yours, etc., Win. ANDERSON.
