LABOUR POLITICS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I have read “Turned Away’s” letter with interest and I suggest he strikes the right note when he suggests the local selection might have something to do with the non-appear-ance of Mr Ormond Wilson. I know for a fact that there was some interference with the arrangements and that the secretary of the branch did not know until 7 p.m. on the night of the meeting that anything was amiss. The president certainly handled the nasty situation with great tact and this saved complications. The difficulty in the Labour movement in Palmerston North, as 1 see it, is the threat of a one-man dictatorship, and this is naturally resented by the majority of members. I suggest that the solution to this problem is to be found in a reopening of the local selection ballot. This I challenge Mr Hodgens to agree to. If not accepted then I suggest a public indignation meeting of Labour Party supporters of this city.—l am, etC ” ONE OF THE OLD SCHOOL.
