FEILDING SALE.

HEAVY CATTLE YARDING

An advance of from os to 7s 6d per head on all classes of station cattle was shown yesterday on a large yarding of over 2000 head at Feilding. All ages and breeds shared in the rise, and practically the whole of the entry was cleared under the hammer. Yearling steers and heifers brought particularly good prices, the top price of £4 for a good line of yearling P.A. steers being well up to the price paid for ordinary two-year beasts. Breeders regarded the sale as a very good one, and an indication of confidence in the market. Fat cattle were not in as good condition as usual, and with the entry comprising practically all dairy breeds the sale was rather quiet. Neither cow nor ox beef was quite up to schedule rates but heifer beef reached market limits. Fat sheep were firm at recent rates, a heavy yarding clearing at auction, while store sheep also held firm. The centre of the sale, however, was in the cattle pens and sheep were comparatively neglected. Dairy stock, of which the entry was shorter than usual, sold fairly well. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report: As is customary, the usual supplementary cattle fair was held and for this period of the year a particularly good yarding of cattle was penned, more particularly in the face of the last two or three heavy yardings of cattle which we have had at this point. The majority of the cattle offered were from distant parts, very few locally bred cattle being on offer. The majority of the yarding consisted of young cattle with a few pens ot particularly good cows and heifers and one or two pens of rather good grown bullocks. In all we estimate there would be in the vicinity of 2400 yarded, our entry comprising 876 head, and we report a total clearance under the hammer. Buyers were present from all parts of the Wellington province, Hawke’s Bay, King Country and Taranaki i Taranaki buyers were keen competitors for young cattle, the majority of our entry going in that direction. Although the attendance of the public at yesterday’s fair was not up to the usual standard, a very strong sale resulted, there being keen competition from the very outset. From now on the yardings of cattle in Feilding will be on a very much smaller scale as the majority of our cattle have been cleaned up. In the sheep section, fat sheep were yarded in the usual numbers and in this section a marked decline in values was experienced compared with the corresponding sale some two weeks ago, fat sheep showing a decline of from 2s to 2s 6d per head. While in the store sheep section a particularly good yarding came forward for this time of the year, we report a total clearance at prices which must be looked upon as in the favour of vendors. The iollowing are our quotations:—Fat sliecp: Fat shorn ewes, 13s, 14s 2d,. 14s 7tl, 15s, 15s Bd, 16s 6d, 17s 6d, to l<s lOd; fat maiden ewes, woolly, to 29s 3d; fat hoggets 22s 2d, 22s 6d, 23s Id to 23s lid.
