EXTRACTS FROM “ STANDARD ” NOVEMBER 10, 1904.
An enthusiastic meeting of young men interested in the establishment of the Young Men’s Christian Association in Palmerston North had been held. A strong working committee had been appointed, a large inaugural meeting was to bo held to bring the objects of the association before tho public, and a secretary had been appointed to take the names of prospective members.
A New York messago said that progress returns of the election showed that President Theodore Roosevelt’s return would be of a swooping character. Justice Parker was his opponent. A Convent bazaar had been held in the previous ten days in Palmerston North, the proceeds running into over £7OO, winch was to be devoted to the Convent building fund. The Agent-General for South Australia had presented Miss Florence Nightingale wi f h an illuminated address fr'm the South Australian Royal Nursing Association commemorating her jubilee in nursing.
Largo numbers of immigrants wore entering tho Argentine, 50,000 having entered during tho previous three months.
