ROAD RACING.

OPENING EVENT

The Feilding Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club held the first race of the season last eevning, the course being to Bunnythorpc and back, a distance of about 11 miles. A young rider having his first outing with the club and on the limit mark secured first place. Conditions for riding were perfect, and although the times registered were not as good as are seen later in the season the winner’s performance was very attractive. Fade narrowly secured fastest time from Cocker whilst Geange headed a bunch for second place. Riders, however, are not yet far advanced in training. The result was as follows: —I. Verry (omins.) 1, S. Geange (3£) 2, R. Kitchen (3f) 3; time, 27min. 42sec. Fastest time, 26mins. 19secs., was registered by Fade (scr.). Also started: JDewe, D. Lamberton (fourth), R. Lamberton, J. Hesketli, H'. Cocker. COMMITTEE MEETING.

The committee of the club met later, when the following fixtures were decided upon : —Thursday next, three circuits of the Makino block, distance 15 miles; Thursday, 22nd., Cheltenham and back. The 20-mile open race for the Treasure Cycle Cup will be run on Wednesday, November 28, over the same course as last vear. In addition

to the cup it was decided to awaid four miniatures, the entry ice to iemain at 2s and the event starting at 6.15. . A motion of sympathy was passed to Mr E. Lawrence wiio is at present an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital. Mr Lawrence, it was pointed out, is a very popular Manawatu rider and the present lioider of the Treasure Cup, and the fact that ho will be unable to defend it in this year’s contest was particularly regie - table. The committee extended its hope for his speedy recovery. In his report, the club’s delegate to the centre advised that Wanganui had been decided upon as the most central venue for the annual general meeting, which would be held early in December Five applications for re-mstate-ment which had been received through through the Feilding Club had also been considered and forwarded to headquarters.
