TERRACE END SCHOOL

AIEETING OF COAIAIITTEE,

The monthly meeting of the Terrace End School Committee was held last evening, Air J. K. Patou presiding. Also present were Alessrs R. C. Donald, E. G. Bennett, H. Blackwood, W. Peterson, J. Davidson, J. H. Nash, C. R. Luke (secretary), and the headmaster (Air A. W. Thompson). An apology for absence was received from the chairman (Air AV. B. Tennent). The headmaster reported that the number on the roll was 657. Daily attendances were now very good, the highest to date being 641. On October 16 Mr H. Locke, chairman of the Central Executive of the Royal LifeSaving Society, accompanied by members of the local executive, had visited the school. Air Lock had addressed the pupils on the activities of the society and also presented to the pupils the awards gained last season. In addition, the school was also presented with the Herbert Smith Trust Shield for most awards last season. Advice had been received that the proficiency examinations would be held at Terrace End on November 28. The examination of the other classes would shortly begin. For the end of the year concert, the Opera House had been taken for December 13. Mr E. H. Lange, agricultural instructor, had paid an official visit to the school that day. The committee arranging the welcome to Alessrs AlcGregor and Walker sought a half holiday to enable the children to participate.—The board has granted this request. It was decided to have the grass cut around the edges of the pit. The playground area lias been attended to, and is in very good order for the jubilee functions. Accounts amounting to £5 2s 2d were passed for payment. Alatters in connection with the jubilee were discussed. It was decided to have 400 menu cards printed for the jubilee banquet, and 1000 programmes for the thanksgiving service. Rev. J. S. Pate is to be asked to offer the prayers and Rev. R. Simpson to pronounce the Benediction. Alessrs Davidson and Nash were appointed the visiting committee for December.

JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. FINALISING OF ARRANGEAIENTS. The central executive of the jubilee committee of the Terrace End School met last evening to finalise arrangements for the forthcoming celebrations. Air J. K. Paton presided over an attendance of twenty-four. It was reported by Air F. Fairbrother that Air H. Lyall had well in hand the preparation of the souvenir programme. Air W. S. Woodroofe reported that the dance committee had decided to hold its function at the De Luxe Hall on the Friday evening. Arrangements were made, in connection with the baby show at the gala day, for babies to be grouped from 1 to 6 months, from 7 to 12 months, and for twins up to 12 months of age. It was reported by Air J. Davidson that Air J. Ellis had kindly consented to ice the jubilee cake, which will be cut at the banquet by the former pupil present who was enrolled nearest to the opening day. It was decided that hostesses for the banquet should be Mesdames Stewart, AlcKegg, Wilson, Fairbrother, and Tennent, and Miss N. Nash. The point of assembly for the procession to precede the official opening was changed from Victoria Avenue to the Terrace End Park, at the corner of Rualiine and Featberston Streets. It was decided that no individual prizes be awarded in the competition for decorated bicycles, tricycles, and perambulators, but that points be allotted, to count for the inter-house competition.
