The final shoot for the Apiti Rifle Club Cup was fired at the range at 500 and 600 yards on Saturday. Following are the scores and handicaps:—A. R. McKenzie, 47—44—3—94; W. McKenzie, 43—45—6—92; J. Elliott, 44—42—6—92; D. McKenzie, 43 — 42—6—91; J. R. Elliott, 46—41—3—90; T. W. Pratt, 42—42—6 —90; H. G. Mapson, 38—29 —13 —80. Rifleman W. McKenzie is the winner of the club cup. On Friday evening last the Apiti Hall was filled with an appreciative audience for the presentation by the Kimbolton players of the musical operetta, “The Major Ruby.” The entertainment which included many bright musical numbers was very well presented and reflected credit on the producers (Mesdames W. Hansen and Shapleski), the principals, and members of the chorus. The proceeds of the function were divided between St. Patrick’s Church (Kimbolton) and the Apiti Returned Soldiers’ Association. At the conclusion of the programme Mr A. Prujcan, president of the R.S.A., expressed the thanks of the association to the performers and to all who had assisted during the evening. Supper was served and the floor cleared for dancing, the music being supplied by Mesdames Barnicoat and Hansen, Misses E. Roberts and M. Signal, and Mr J. Hansen. Messrs P. Lewis and J. McKay were the M.C’s. An iced cake donated by Mrs F. Swift, which was won by Mrs Dysart, of Wellington, was donated again and auctioned to assist the funds. A bottle of wine also donated by Mrs Swift was won by Mr 11. Duffy, Mt. Richards. The local Tennis Club was favoured with favourable weather for their opening on Saturday when the season’s activities commenced with a clock tournament competition. Before declaring the courts open for play the president (Mr J. D. Kilgour) wished the players a successful season. The senior member, Mrs A. R. McNae, played the first ball. The competition finalists were Mesdames J. D. Kilgour and K. Waterson. who will play off at the first opportunity. The men’s section, resulted in a tio between E. Marshall (Kimbolton) and E. Schmidt, the latter winning in the play-off. An enjoyable afternoon tea was served by the ladies of the club. Mr A. F. Stewart conducted a special service for young people in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday afternoon when the prizes were presented to the Sunday school scholars. At the conclusion of the service Phyllis Catherine, the infant daughter of Mr and Mrs H. G. Mapson, was baptised. Mr J. D. Aird, who has been in Apiti for the past five years, has sold his business and will shortly be leaving the dis-

trict. Mr and Mrs Aird, who have been active members of the Tennis Club and supporters of the Presbyterian Church and Women’s Institute organisations, will be greatly missed on their departure. Mr F. Osborne, who has been an inmate of tho Palmerston North Hospital for some weeks, is home again and is much improved in health. Mr and Mrs Brabyn and family left Apiti last week to take up their residence in Marton. Mrs W. Dysart, of Wellington, is the gucet of Mrs F. Swift. Miss D. Swift, who has been visiting Napier, is spending a fow days with her mother before returning to Palmerston North. A sharp frost was experienced , locally over Sunday night and considerable damage was done to early vegetables and small fruits susceptible to such oold snaps.
