WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. A fairly active demand on the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday saw minor changes in quotations, the markets geenrally being steady. Government loans were rather quiet after the heavy trading at the start of the week, but holders showed no disposition to make concessions. Local body and company debentures were quiet but firm. Bank issues were in good demand, quoted prices being mostly firm on late rates. Buyers eased to 15s 9d for Commercial Bank of Australia, but sellers held for 16s. Reserve Bank sold strongly at £6 12s. New Zealand at 49s and New South Wales at £32 -were slightly firmer. E.S. and A. were sought at £5, sellers asking 7s 6d better. In pastoral shares, Abraham and AVilliams preference were stronger at 965. Dalgety were wanted at £9, and Goldsbrough Mort at 31s. Gas, insurance, meat, shipping, woollen and coal issues were quiet. Queensland Insurance were reported sold at 74s 6d. New Zealand Insurance were easier at 68s 3d, as were South British at 89s. Brewery issues were firm and active. Industrial and trading issues were much sought after, quotations being firm with no concessions from sellers. British Tobacco had sales at 4Ls 9d, and Colonial Sugar sold on ’change at £76 ex dividend.
