FEILDING’S GOOD EFFORT. BRAMWELL COMPILES CENTURY. Making their first appearance locally in the mid-week cricket series at the Sportsground yesterday, the Feilding team, with some representative players in their ranks, proved to be too strong tor P.D.C., although the latter club avoided a four-point reverse. The visitors compiled 272 for the loss of three wickets, two members electing to retire, Bramwell’s total being 104 when he gave way to another member of the side.

After making an indifferent showing at their first visit to the wickets in opposition to Optimists, Kiwi improved in their second innings to make up their deficit of the first innings. The final partnership was unbeaten at the close and Optimists were consequently restricted to a three-point win.

FEILDING v. P.D.C. Possessing an eleven of older and more experienced members, the Feilding team, although they lost their first wicket with only a single run on the board, took charge of the bowling thereafter, Bramwell and Dunn carrying the total to 19C before the latter gave Oliver a catch off 'Whitehetd which was accepted. His 89 included 10 fours and two sixes. Bramwell elected to retire after knocking up 104 in quick time, his total including 16 fours and four sixes, while the succeeding batsman, Packer, retired at 53. The closure was taken at 272 and Feilding then proceeded to dismiss P.D.C. for 76, Brace (35) being the only batsman to display any confidence. Required to follow-on, P.D.C. did letter at thensecond essay and had 102 on the board

Ormond and Matson, senr.,. were the only members of the Kiwi eleven to enter - double figures against Optimists, Jefferies and Zaloum disposing of the side without being relieved for a fotal of 56 runs, the former taking six wickets for 21 runs and the latter four for 31. At their visit Optimists ran up 162 Cockburn heading the returns with 51, and they then endeavoured to dispose of their opponents a. second time for less than 106 runs. Matters were running promisingly for them for a period, but with Spiers and Brown becoming associated as eighth wicket, the batsmen wiped off the deficiency. Brown knocking up 42, 30 of the runs coming from boundaries —three sixes and three fours. The call of time found Kiwi with 129 to their credit for the loss of nine wickets, and Optimists had to be content with a three-point win. Detailed scores are: KIWI. First Innings. CRICKET COACH INJURED.

A painful injury was suffered by L. F. Townsend, the Auckland Cricket Association’s professional coach, when playing for Ponsonby against North Slwre at Eden Park on Saturday. During the first half of the afternoon Ponsonby were given an excellent chance of dismissing one -of the Shore batismen by a run out, but the fieldsman who gathered in the ball, instead of returning it to the bowler’s bands, hurled it from short range at the Englishman’s feet. The ball struck the coach on the left leg and caused a large bruise. Thus, instead of resulting in tho dismissal of a batsman, the overeagerness of the fieldsman put a handicap on Ponsonby’s best bowler. The injury caused Townsend’s retirement from the field, and although he went back to the game a.fter half an hour, his injured leg swelled rapidly, and. at the afternoon tea adjournment he was forced to give up play for the day.
