SLOW BATSMAN.

INCIDENT AT MASTERTON. On the ground that a batsman had exceeded the two minutes allowed in which to go to the wickets, the United eleven claimed a cricket match from Old Boys in the Wairarapa competition on Saturday. Although this procedure is within the bounds of the rules, it caused considerable surprise and no little comment. It is believed to be unprecedented in the history of Wairarapa cricket. When United successclaimed the game Old Boys had two wickets still to fall with over an

hour to play. The former Manawatu player, S. Lang, who is now stationed at Masterton, was a member of the Old Boys team. In United’s innings he had taken five wickets for 73 runs, and made 55 with tlie bat, so a good season should lie ahead of him in his now quarters.— “Slip.”
