WOODVILLK. Aug. 3 The Woodvillc County Council met tojday, Cr i\J. O. Oraingcr presiding. Th<> chairman congratulated Cr R. If. Morgan on his election to the office of president of th,o Woodvillc* Bowling Club. The chairman reported that everything was going ahead with regard to the improvement to tho Papatawa railway crossing, and that it was now a matter for tho Highways Board. .It was decided to donate £5 to the funds of the WoodvilJo public library for the purchase 'of new books. Cr Sheffield reported that a complaint had been made of overhanging banks on tho Utawhao Road, but that the onginoer had inspected these' and considered that they were quite safe. In his report, which was adopted, tho engineer (Mr W. J. Uawkcs) stated, inter alia:—Woodvillc Riding.—Metal repairs were carried out on Hope's, Martin's, McKinlay's, I'rankland's, Bcagley's and Conduit's Roads. Bridges on ■ Lcith's and Frankland's Roads were repaired. Grading was done on Oxford, Bushmill, Woodland's, Pinfold and Conduit's Roads and on McLean Street. Slips on Whariti Road wero removed. Watcrtables were cleaned on Bcagley's Road. Stone and willow i groynes for river protection were put in

at P&patawa reserve. In regard to main highways, the. engineer reported:—Wooclville—Palmorston North: Slips were removed and watcrtables cleaned. Surface seal repairs wore attended to. NapierWellington : Grading was done on the shoulders and unsealed portions. Surface repairs were attended to whore necessary. Slips were removed and watcrtables cleaned. Bridge decking repairs were attended to. Woodvillc —Hoplands: Grading was done periodically throughout and metal repairs attended to where necessary. Watcrtables were cleaned out and slips removed. Woodvillc —Tarnaki: Grading was done periodically throughout, and metal repairs attended to. Watcrtables were cleaned and culverts repaired. The monthly meeting of the Woodvillc and District. R.S.A. was held last evening, Mr X. H. Williams, being in the chair. After routine correspondence had been dealt with, matters concerning tho forth. coming annual ball were considered at length. Tho matter of providing suitable headstones on the graves of returned men buried in the Woodvillc cometcry was considered and a- report on the question is to be brought before the next meeting of the committee. Messrs R. Morgan and R. Thome vvoro elected honorary members. Mr and Mrs E. Huggins, of New Ply mouth, and former residents of Papatawa, J , were visitors to Woodvillc this week. j
