COLLEGE RUGBY.

The Rugby match between the Palmerston North Boys’ High School and St. Patrick’s College will take place on the Showgrounds at 2.45 p.m. on Wednesday next. The gate takings of this very fine match arc being devoted to the Mayor’s Relief Fund and it is anticipated that there will be a record attendance to witness the game Already this year the Palmerston North High School have boaten Wanganui College and To Auto teams, whilst St. Patrick’s have triumphed over New Plymouth High School by 6—5, which school beat Hamilton High School by 64—3. Another good win obtained by St. Patricks was when they beat Wellington College by 34nil. Admission to the grounds is Is and to the stands 6d. A TROPHY OFFERED. In connection with the match between St. Patrick’s College (Silverstream) and High School a. lady supporter of the game has announced her intention to offer a 20-guinea cup for annual competition between the two schools. However, it was learned today, the rector of the High School (Mr J. Murray) does not entertain the suggestion with favour, it having been found that the programme which annually faces the senior fifteen is already burdensome; indeed, one of the regular inter-school fixtures had to be declined this year. While the local Rugby nursery is willingly fulfilling the Charity Day attraction with the Silverstream School, it would prefer that one of the time-honoured fixtures —versus Wanganui Collegiate and Wanganui Technical College—be substituted as a Charity Day effort, the two schools to meet locally in alternate years. Unfortunately, the heavy role which the local school has been required to bear this season has had its effect upon its playing talent, injuries having made considerable inroads upton its ranks, and not on one single occasion has the coach been able to get the complete rearguard together for practice or match purposes. It is consequently felt that the demands made upon the boys are already heavy enough without making the inter-school fixtures burdensome.
