WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Heavy trading in Government loans was the principal feature yesterday in the Wellington market. Hie 4 per cents, 1946-1949, and 1955, all had business at advanced rates, which brought tho yield down to £3 9s sd. to £3 lls 5d per cent. All issues were in active demand at markedly firmer rates. Banks were in good request,' but prices had a rather easier tendency. Australasias eased to £ll 15s, Commercial of Sydney to £l6 17s 6d, National of New Zealand to 81s, and Union of Australia to £9 19s. New Zealand were done at 50s 9d, more being wanted at 50s 6d. In financial and .pastorals, Goldsbrough Morts were slightly firmer at 32s 3d, but N.Z. Loan, and Mercantile ordinary stock eased to £sl. Gas shares were quiet, and unchanged. Insurance shares remained firm. National hardening to 2Us 5d and New Zealand to 62s 6d. There was very little doing in other sections of the market, prices being generally steady at late rates. N.Z. Paper Mills were traded at 31s and Bycroft* at 475. Mining shares were very dull.
