ADDINGTON MARKET. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 23. With entries in the principal sections smaller than for some time, the general tone of the demand at Addington market to-day was sharpened as compared with Store sheep.—An indifferent offering, typical of the winter season. There was little interest in the sale. Values for owes were easier, except for best types, aiid passings were frequent. Wethers declined in value compared with late rates by Is t,O Is 6d a head, and lamb prices were easier by Is to I 3 6d a head. Values were- Good two-tooth three-quarter-bred ewes, to 31s fid; ordinary, to 26s 9d; medium 6 and 8-tooth halfbred 20s to 21s 3d; plain, 15s to 16s 3d; sound mouth, 17s to 19s 3d; sound and failing mouth, 13s 4d to 16s lid; forward halfbred wethers, 18s 3d to 19s 7d; ordinary 2-tooth to 16s sd; medium ewe lambs, 17s 4d to IBs 4d: ordinary, 15a 6d to lbs 10d; mcdiUTn m.s., 14s to 16s; others, 10s 6d to 13b lOd. Fat lambs.—An entry of 3000 head. Competition was exceeuingly keen, especially for butchers’ sorts. Export buyers operated at rates fully up to the schedule, based on 8d for two s. Butchers sorts advanced Is a head. Extra, prime heavy lambs sold to 29s 4d; prime, 24s 6d to 27s 6d; medium weights, 21s 6d to 245; light, 16s to 21s. . , Fat sheep—An entry of 4800 head. Sheep were forward from the Chatham Islands, the West Coast, and southern provinces. Competition was well sustained throughout at rates equal to those at the last market. Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 28s 10d; heavy, 25s to 275; medium, 22s 6d to 255; ordinary, 19s to 225; light, 15s to 13s. Extra prime heavy ewes, to 26s lOd; heavy, 22s to 24s medium 19s fid to 21s fid; ordinary, 18s 6d to 19s; light, 12s to 16s. Fat cattle.— I The entry of 300 head was the smallest for a considerable period. The result was a keen salo with an ad vanco up to £1 a head on late rates for all classes. Especially good young beef made up to 25s 6d per 1001 b; prime, from 21s to 245; heavy, 18s to 19s; secondary, 15s to 18s; and inferior and rough, dovvn to 14s. Extra prime heavy steers sold 'to £ll 12s 6d; prime, £7 15s to £9 15s, mediumweight, £6 15s to £8 ss; ordmaiy, £4 15s to £6 ss; light, to £4_los- extra prime heifers to £8 12s 6d; prime £5 10s to £7; ordinary, £3 10s to £5; light, to £3 ss. Extra prime cows to £1 12s oci, prime, £4 10s to £6; ordinary, £3 to £4; light, to £2 15s. _ Fat pigs.—A medium entry. The demand was spasmodic, with an unusual irregularity in prices. Choppers made 30s to £5 6s; baconers, 45s to £3 12s bd; average price per pound, 4d to sd. Porkers, 21s; heavy porkers, to 36s 6d; average price per lb, 4id to sid. The vealers entered were mainly unfinished and largo sorts, and small calves were in short supply. It was a keen sale. An outstanding runner made £5 6s. There was a spirited sale for store pigs. Weaners made .to 11s; slips, 9s 6d to lls; stores, lls 6d to 225. , ■ Some station steers in the store cattle section made £5. Heifers made £2 2s 6d to £2 17s bd, fresh cows to 455, and bulls to £3 2s 6d. JOHNSONVILLE SALE. At the Johnsonville sale yesterday, Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., offered a smaller yarding than usual of grown cattle and an average yarding of vealers. Sheep came forward in the usual numbers. Owing to the short yarding, prices for bullocks and cows were firmer than last week, while vealers were on a par. Sheep and lambs showed no alteration on late rates. Prices were much on a par with thoso of last week in the fat cattle section at to-day’s sale at Stortford Lodge. ihero was a moderate yarding and the demand was steady throughout the sale. With local and export buyers operating, very few entries were passed Builocks. Medium to prime, £6 5s to £7 13s 6d; °theis from £5; cows, medium to prime, £3 16s to £4 18s 6d; others from £3 ss; heifers, medium to prime, £4 4s 6d to. £5; others, from £3 ss. Store cattle made late rates, with a fair inquiry from local farmers. Steers and bullocks sold to £5, heifers to £2, and cows to £1 Is. Fat sheep showed an improvement on lambs, ewes making late rates while wethers were On par to slightly improved. Export competition was keen for lambs. Ewes medium to prime, 17s 6d to 20s; others, from 15s. Wethers, medium to prime, 22s 6d to 265; others, from 21s 6d. Lambs, 16s to 23s Bd. lhc store sheep comprised chiefly lambs and hoggets, which sold at late rates, with a slight improvement on some lines. Wethers were unchanged, while breeding ewes, which wore few showed little change. Wethers sold to 225, lambs to 18s 6d, and ewes to 23s 6d. LEVIN SALE. WRIGHT, STEPEHNSON AND CO., LTD. THE ANNUAL" MEETING. The twenty-eighth annual meeting of the members of Wright, Stephenson and Co.. Ltd., was held this week at the head office of the company, Customhouse Quay, Wellington, in the presence of a large number of shareholders. Tho profit and loss account showed a credit balance 'of £41,354 5s 6d._ From this has been deducted the interim dividend on preference shares, paid on November 1. 1933, amounting to £6246, leaving a balance of £35,108 5s 6d available for distribution. A dividend of 5 per cent, on the preference shares and 3 per cent, on the ordinary shares was declared, leaving a balance of £13,609 0s 6d to be carried forward. Sir William Hunt and Messrs J. T. Martin and S. C. Sutherland, the retiring directors, were rc-elcctcd. Messrs Barr, Burgess and Stewart wore reappointed auditors.
