PAHIATUA, May 10. There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting ot the Foresters’ Lodge on Tuesday evening, when C.K. Bro. T. Pinfold presided. A copy of the minutes of tiie trienmaf conference held in Palmerston North was received, also a copy ot a minute passed by the District Executive congratulating P.O.R. Bro. G. F. Gelderd upon the very efficient manner in which ho had carried out his duties and his presentation of tho balance-sheet which had never had a tag on it from the time he was first appointed secretary forty-odd years ago. The report of the District High Court was received. Court Loyal Enterprise, Masterton, wrote inviting tho I’ahiatua Lodge to take part in a ritual competition. Further details are to be obtained. Tho Masterton Lhiited Friendly Societies suggested a conference for the purpose of furthering lodge matters in connection with benefits, etc. Mrs A. AlcCool wrote acknowledging the letter of sympathy sent her in connection with the death ot her husband. The nomination of officers resulted: C.IL, Bro. H. Butcher; S.C.R., Bro. E. Foley; S.W., Bro. N. Checkloy; J.W., Bro. E Rider; 5.8., Bro. E. O’Brien. Two candidates were proposed for initiation. Six members were reported on the sick list. St. Peter’s schoolroom was well filled last night for tho opening dance of St. Peter’s Girls’ Club. Old-time and modern dances were held. A statue schottische was won by Mr J. Paget and Miss J. Barraclough, while tho Monte Carlo prizes were carried off by Mr E. Bryant and Miss IL Williams. At Rugby, yesterday, Athletic seniors lost to Mangatainoka by 3 points to nil. The Bush Hockey Association competitions were commenced yesterday in unpleasant weather, results being as follow: —Ladies: Hukanui 5 v. Kaitawa 3, Ilamua 3v. Nireaha 2. Men : Woodvillc 3 v. Huimai 2. The semi-final of tho ladies’ seven-aside opening tournament was played at Nireaha and resulted in a win for Nireaha B over Hamua B by one goal to nil. The Bush Basketball Association games were played and resulted as follow: Seniors : Athletic A 6 v. Konini 3, AVaratahs 13 v. Athletic B 2. AA’oodville a bye. Juniors : Convent 14 v. Woodvillo 13, High School 18 v. Athletic 4, Konini a bye. Mrs AA r . T. Boyd, of AVakeman Street, left to-day to visit Wellington. Miss Mildred Boyd accompanied her to AA’ellington and will proceed to Peel Forest, South Canterbury. Miss Mavis Swanney, Ivohinui, has returned home after a holiday spent at Rongolea. Mrs R. Gardner, of Rongotea, is tho guest of Mrs J. Swanney, Kohinui. Miss Iloulbrooke, of Opunake, is visiting her parents at Tiraumea. PAHIATUA, May 11. The annual general meeting of the Ladies’ Guild was held on AA’ednesday, there being a fair attendance. After the usual opening devotions Mrs A. AVillis extended a welcome to Rev. C. M. Roberts and Mrs Roberts and expressed the hope that their stay in Pahiatua would be a happy one. Mrs Roberts suitably responded. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs K. Roberts; vice-pre-sidents, Mesdames Hansen and Willis; secretary, Airs H. R. Ogg; treasurer. Airs A. Carthew (pro tern); organists, Mesdames Dodd, Ryan and Ogg. Aliss AI. Buckley, wlio has spent an extended holiday in Auckland, has returned to her home in Alangamutu.
