TOREADOR WINS PRINCIPAL HANDICAP. ECCLEFECHAN THE STEEPLECHASE. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL. May 12. The Southland Racing. Club’s winter meeting concluded to-day in dull, showory weather. Tho totalisator investments were £7469 10s, against £7149 10s last year. The total for the meeting was £13,619, against £13,243- last year. Results: —. Master Anomaly and Clara Bow made the running to tho straight. Water Power who, losing a lot of ground at tho start, made it up well and put in a great run, but just failed to reach Master Anomaly by a neck. Mayam was two lengths and a half awav; then came Miss Redowa. Time, 1.20 4-5. RITCHIE MEMORIAL STEEPLECHASE of £125. About two and a half miles. 4- ECCLEFECHAN, 9.12 (Low) ... 1 3-4 DUNMURE, 10.1 (Langford) ... 2 6-6 QUINOPAL, 11.4 (Dempster) ... 3 Also started: 2-2 Umtali 10.7, 1-1 French Fleet 10.6, and Calham 9.13 coupled, 5-3 Cultivator 9.9. French Fleet, Calham, Ecclefcchan, and Dunmure were the leaders almost throughout. The whole field jumped well, and it was a great race. Ecclefcchan and Dunniure led into the straight and the former won by five lengths, with Qu inopal a length away; then came Calham. Time, 5.24. AWARUA HANDICAP, of £l5O. Toreador and Black Duke were early in the lead from Signaller, Jack a Dandy, and The Smuggler. They raced in this order to the straight. Palmary finished very fast from the rear, but Toreador hung on to heat him by half a length. Signaller was two lengths away, and then Black Duke Time, 2.18 4-5. BLUFF HANDICAP, of £BO.
