LAND IN DANGER.
RIVERS MAY AMALGAMATE. Per Press Association. GREYAIOUTH, May 4. There is imminent danger of the Toremakau River breaking into the Orangipuke River at Inchbonnie and so discharging into Lake Brunner. Both the county arid borough councils have discussed the matter, the former having inspected the place, where less than one chain now separates the rivers. It is considered certain that spring floods will cause a diversion of the Teremakau River. Unless preventive measures are taken the flooding of the Arnold and Grey Valleys, in the former of which the Power Board’s station is located, will probably result from the break through, also the erosion of farm lands at Inchbonnie. A local bodies’ conference is being held and the proposal is for an expenditure of £ISOO in erecting a stopbank and groynes.
