SALVATION ARMY HEAD
METHOD OF ELECTION. WELLINGTON, May 4. The procedure to be followed in electing General Higgins’s successor as head of the Salvation Army, was described by Commissioner Cunningham, of the Salvation Army, when interviewed yesterday. “The new general will be elected by the members of the High Council,” he said. “This council consists of Commissioners , Lieutenant-Commissioners, and Territorial Commissioners, who have held the office of colonel for a period of at least two years. There are about forty-five or forty-six members of the High Council, representing the Salvation Army in all parts of the. world.” “Have you any inkling as to General Higgins’s successor?” he was asked. “None whatever,” 6aid Commissioner Cunningham, “and I don’t think any of the others have. All I know is that I have to be in London by August 27, so that I shall be saying farewell to New Zealand about the middle of July.” As Commissioner Cunningham had already been notified that he is to be transferred to another command this year, his departure in July will be final.
