COMPULSORY HOLIDAY OPPOSED Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, April 18. Expressing his views as an exsoldier at the Manufacturers’ ' Association meeting last evening, Mr J. G. Jeffery stated that lie was strongly opposed to the observance of Anzac Day as a compulsory holiday. In no other part of the Empire was a full holiday observed for a similar anniversary. In Australia a halt of only two hours was made, but in New Zealand not only was a full day’s production lost, but further time also, Because there were lengthy industrial processes that could not be carried out with the mid-week holiday.
