(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTOX, April 16. Messrs Don and Read, drawing and drill instructors respectively, visited Foxton District High School for the purpose of giving instruction to members of the teaching staff. Members of the staffs of district schools were present at the local school for the occasion.

The large engine which was used to drive the plant in the New Zealand Shipping Co’s ehed, recently destroyed by fire, was blown up by experts last week and the metal taken away for scrap iron. The Natives of the district are endeavouring to renovate the old Turanga meeting house, at the one-time thickly populated pah of Paranui, near Himatangi. With this object in view a .pah improvement committee has been set up comprising Messrs T. Tuna, M. Karehana, P. Mahauariki and P. Reihana, and they are obtaining the cooperation of the Maoris in the Himatangi district for the fulfilment of their purpose. FOXTON, April 17. Welcome rain commenced to fall locally on Tuesday. The lower Manawatu has been experiencing an unusually dry spell. X'o interest was evinced in the annual meeting of householders in connection with the Foxton District High School. The chairman (Mr M. E. Perreau) expressed regret at the lack of interest evinced in the meeting and said it was disappointing for the committee. The annual report and bal-ance-sheet, as previously published, were read and adopted and the committee, Messrs J. K. Hornblbw, M. E. Perreau, W. R. McKenzie, H. J. Reid, I. W. Mudford, S. E. Cowley, P. J. Mairs and R. Rangiheuea, declared elected. At a meeting of the new committee held at the close of the householders’ meeting, Mr J. K. Hornblow was re-elected chairman, Mr R. Rangiheuea secretary- and Mr W. Trueman auditor.

The first of a series of fortnightly- old time dances under the auspices cf the Foxton Fire Brigade was held on Mcndav evening. The music was supplied by Mr T. East.

On Saturday the Foxton Bowling Club’s green was officially closed for the season, when a good attendance enjoyed friendly games. On Friday last Thomas and Roore (skip) played the holders of the Havdock Pins, P. Walls and Heppner (skip) and were successful by a margin of two points, 23 to 21. On Saturday Marston and Mattar played a challenge match with the holders, and beat them by a margin of four points—2l to 17.
