EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” APRIL 10, 1904. The Putea County Council had decided to make the experiment at Waitotara of oiling the roads in order to keep down dust and lengthen their life. The executive of the Palmerston North Hospital Hoard had decided to recommend the board to proceed with the_ erection of a contagious diseases hospital in the Hospital grounds. Steps wore being taken in Palmerston North to hold a rifle meeting on the samo lines as those at Wanganui. A tender had been accepted for the building of a poultry hall at the Showgrounds. Exceptionally large entries had been received for the principal dairy produce classes at the Palmerston North Wintor Show. Some 35 factories were to be represented in the export classes and 10 had entered for the novice class. In the cheese divisions 40 entries were to hand.

A message from New York announced that the exploration ship Discovery would not return to England direct but would take soundings between New Zealand and Capo Horn. The Morning and the Terra Nova wore sailing Homo direct. All three were in New Zealand waters at the time.
