PALAIERSTON BEAT LEVIN

A GRADE FINAL.

Tlie meeting between Levin and Palmerston North in the final of the Alanawatu Lawn Tennis Association’s A grade competition at Levin on Saturday was productive of some magnificent play. Conditions were perfect and an enjoyable afternoon resulted in the gallery of spectators being treated to some interesting contests. Levin held the advantage in the ladies’ section, winning three of the four singles, and although the sets were oven in the doubles the visitors were 6 up in games. Tho tables were turned, however, by the men, who also took both doubles and, with the honours being shared in the mixed doubles. Palmerston North emerged as the winners by 9 sets and 109 games to 7 sets and 106 games.

LEVIN RETAIN TROPHY

The match between tbe Levin and Bulls Clubs for tho Linklatcr Cup was played at Levin at the week-end, when the home club retained possession of the trophy by the substantial margin of 17 sets and 107 games to 7 sets and 121 games. The winners proved to be too strong in tlie ladies’ section, winning all their singles and doubles.

AIILSON CLUB'S MATCHES

The Alilson Tennis Club had two engagements during the week-end, the senior team playing a friendly match with Fire Brigade at Palmerston North, and a junior team meeting a similar team from llokowliitu at Alilson. The former proved victorious by three pots after a most enjoyable match, and the junior team scored a win over Hokowhitu by two sets. The win of the Alilson junior team was creditable in view of the fact that all members except one were having their first experience of match piay.
