HOLD UP OF TRAFFIC.
AN UNUSUAL INCIDENT. WHANGAREI, April 9. Traffic was delayed on Saturday for nearly two and a half hours under unusual circumstances. A small house was being moved bn wheels by Mr P. Henwood, of Maungatapere, but while attempting to negotiate Victoria Bridge at the Town Wharf, Whangarei, the house became securely jammed between two upright supports ill the middle of the structure. The incident occurred at 5.45 p.m. and it was not until 8.10 o’clock that the house was finally got across. During that time it was necessary to saw off a portion of the overhang from the roof ancl “jack” it to a higher level every few yards. The trouble occurred at a very inconvenient period, as all the Saturday night shoppers and theatre patrons coming from that area were involved. A large number of people were held up by the obstruction, and they cheered when the bridge was cleared. By this time over 50 motor-cars were waiting at either end to cross the bridge, and the borough inspector had a busy time regulating the traffic.
