There was beautiful weather for the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's second autumn meeting;, tho amount handled on the totalisator being £6854, as against £7317 10s, a decrease of £463 10s. As a result of an inquiry after the President's Handicap, R. Marsh, rider of Gainsfid, was suspended for a month for careless riding and interfering with Aesculus. Results:— KARAMU HURDLES, of £7O. Cotsfield and Kimbo together led tho field for & mile. Running to the last fence Manuiri wont up to jump with Kimbo and Million, and then drew away to win comfortably by three lengths from Million. Marac Quex was bost away, but Marsong took the lead. In the straight Marae Quex came througli to win easily by threelengths. McHeath in the last stride beat the favourite by half a head. Anemometer and Stitch made tho running from Emotion half a n.ile from homo, Aesculus making up a deal of ground. Emotion led into tho straight, but Gainsfkl and Blue Boy came through. Aesculus was almost down through jostling. Gainslid beat Blue Boy by half a neck. Emotion was a head furi«?r back and Stitch lourth. Time, 2.6 3-5. AKITIO HANDICAP, of £7O. Tycoon took up tho running from Conference, Hatuma and Tres Sec. Once they straightened up the field swung into line, each looking likely. In a great finish Conference and Tres Sec dead-heated, beating High Grader by half a length. Next came Hatuma and Royal Shift. Time, 1.41. TWYFORD HANDICAP, of £7O. Grumpy led in the early stages, ITybiscus then taking charge, with Hunting Jay joining the leader into the straight. The favourite then ran on to win easily by three lengths. Grumpy was a similar distance away and Marae Quex was fourth. Time, 1.4 1-5. OKAWA HANDICAP, of £IOO. Six furlongs. 2-1 SPEED, 8.12 (B. H. Morris) 1 3-3 SOUCHONG, 8.9 (Reed) 2 1-2 ROYAL HUNTING, 9.9 (Atkins) ... 3 Also started : 7-6 Slippery 9.1, 4-4 Cullus 8.9, 8-8 Royal Bengal 8.0, 5-5 Hunting Day 7.8, 6-7 Stitch car. 7.16£, 9-9 Sylvan Dell 7.0. Speed started well, Souchong afterwards taking tho lead. Speed came through to win comfortably by one and a halt lengths from Souchong, with Royal Hunting two lengths further back. Cullus was lourth. Time, 1.33.
