CUB CAMP AT WANGANUI

PALMERSTON NORTH SUCCESSES. Ten out of 35 members attending a AVolf Club wood badge camp at AVanganui over the Easter period were from the Manawatu district. The camp comprised one of three sections in each of which examinees have to qualify in order to gain the woodbadge, which entitles them to become members of the Chief Scout’s own troop and to wear the wood-badge and a grey scarf to denote their rank. Three of the Manawatu district trainees qualified for the camp section, they being Miss Grace Andrews, cubmaster of tho All Saints’ Troop; Mr B. Buck, scoutmaster of the Takaro troop; and Mr E. Newton, assistant cub-master of the Takaro troop. The first section of the whole examination embraces its theoretical aspect, the second tho practical work in camp and the third section is awarded when tho commissioner is satisfied that tho examinee is passing on to the cubs under his or her control the lessons learned in the first two sections. The camp was under the control of Miss Nancy AVilson, Dominion Akela Leader, assisted by Mr L. G. Callis, Akela Leader (of Palmerston North). The site of the camp was on the bank of the AVanganui River, at Araniolio.
