CENTENARY AIR RACE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —May I be permitted a small space in your paper. I have read that a proposal emanates from Auckland advocating the raising of the sum of £IO,OOO to give a New Zealand aii'man the opportunity of taking part in the Melbourne centenary air race. I also read of a Wellington organisation’s plight, and how three times during the past week the Rev. T. Eielden Taylor, Church of England missioner, has had stones thrown at him by men whom he had to refuse food and shelter owing to the lack of funds. Mr Taylor said the abuse showered on him lately had been ghastly because the men would not believe the Mission had no money. The Rev. Fielden Taylor is doing good work among the poor in Wellington. On the one hand men, women and childwn are without the bare necessities of life, while on the other large sums of money are available for sport. I suggest, sir, that the city that can spend so large a sum of money on a race, should think first of the human race, and use it instead for those who will experience many hardships this coming winter.—l am, etc., C.L.B.
