NORTHERN CLUB.

A meeting of the general committee of the Northern Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club was held at the club pavilion last night, the president (Mr J. C. Young) being in the chair. The lion, treasurer reported that the funds had benefited to the extent of £75 17s 8d as a result of the recent gala day. This was considered very satisfactory, and was a slightly larger amount than that raised at a similar function last year. The president reported having authorised further improvements to the playing areas in accordance with the decision made by the committee three months ago. When the work is completed three extra tennis courts will be available. The croquet section stressed the need for an extra green for their increasing membership, and after a considerable discussion it was decided to hold the matter over meantime. A committee comprising the president, Mr P. S. Larcomb (lion, treasurer) and Mr F. C. Bryan was set up to bring clown a budget for the 1934-35 season. It was decided to close the greens on Saturday. April 28. Accounts totalling £7B 16s lid was passed for payment. It was decided to take steps to collect outstanding- subscriptions by April 20. The progress made by the club since 1922 is remarkable: Originally the playing areas comprised one bowling green, two croquet greens and four tennis courts. To-day there are two bowling greens, four croquet greens and twelve tennis courts. The income annually has increased from £2BO to £420, and the pavilion has been improved since its erection, shelters have been built for all sections and the grounds made into a delightful beauty spot. It is particularly gratifying to fine} that although there has been an economic depression for four years the bulk of the development has taken place in that period.
