MAR.TON, Feb. 2

At a special meeting of the Marton Swimming Club last evening it was decided that the club be disbanded. The president, Mr A. O. Wimsett, occupied the chair and all present expressed regret that such a step had become necessary. It was decided that the funds b e handed over to the Marton. branch of the Royal Life-Sav-ing Society to be held in trust until such time as another body is formed to control swimming in Marton. A vote of thanks to the president, to those officials who had assisted, and to the secretary, was carried by acclamation. There was a full muster of members of the Marton Life-Saving Club at the baths on Wednesday evening when a very interesting programme was put oil. The Marton Scout Troop LifeSaving Club were also in attendance. After land drill the members took part in water work and an important step towards qualifying was taken by many present. A match between Gonville (Wanganui) and Marton. was played on the Marton croquet courts yesterday, for the Wedderspoon Cup, resulting in a win for Gonville by 8 points. Following are the scores, Gonville players be. ing mentioned first:—Mrs Uttley (7) 9, Mrs Parkes (7) 26; Mrs Wood (61) 26, Mrs Thompson (6{) 6; Mrs Healey (7) 26, Mrs Mclndoe (G{) 17; Mrs Hoare (8) 22 Miss Ferens (7) 26. Totals: Gonville, 83; Marton 75. The Marton Club entertained the visitors at the green.
