RELIEF OF MORTGAGORS
LEGISLATION TO BE EXTENDED. FURTHER AMENDMENTS CONSIDERED. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 31. . An anouncement that it was the intention of the Government to extend the operation of the mortgagors relief legislation, which expires on December 31 next, was made in the House of Representatives this afternoon by the Minister of Justice (Hon. J. G. Cobbe) when replying to a question by Mr W. J. Poison. . Mr Poison asked the Minister to take the earliest opportunity of making an announcement of the Government’s intention in the matter, so as to give farmers some hope for the future. . The Minister said it was the intention of the Government to bring down legislation to extend the period of operation of the Act. Further machinery amendments to render the Act more effective were at present under consideration.
