DECLINE IN PRICES. A DIFFICULT SITUATION. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 31. The Samoan correspondent of the United Press Association, writing from Apia on October 19, says that the price of copra is down to £3 per ton to European planters, while the natives are receiving less. The natives are not cutting copra on account of the low prices. Cocoa is down in price to £35 per ton, which leaves practically no margin to the planter. Bananas are helping the situation to some extent, but greater benefit would be experienced if a largely increased quantity could be shipped.
