On Friday afternoon the Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting in the local hall, Mrs Davies presiding over a good attendance. It was decided not to hold a meeting in December and that the annual picnic take the place of the January meeting. Mrs D. Rowland, the delegate who attended the half-yearly federation meeting, in Pahiatua, gave an interesting report. The presisident, who kindly made and presented a large artificial Oriental poppy (the institute’s emblem) was thanked by acclamation. The question of the pageant being organised by Mrs Bristow was discussed and a number of members signified their willingness to assist. In the competition for the best decorative vase of flowers a beautiful display of blooms was shown. The winners were Mrs D. Buchanan I, and Miss E. McEwen and Mrs F. Vautier equal 2. Mrs Nielsen gave an interesting demonstration of dressmaking which was much appreciated. A vote of thanks was passed by acclamation. The roll call, “sing, say or penny pay,” caused much amusement. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames D. and A. Buchanan and H. Igglesden, and the meeting closed with the National Anthem; After an unusual period of dry weather steady rain set in on Saturday night which will ensure abundance of feed ami heavy crops of hay. The output of cheese at the local factory for the month of October was approximately 20 per cent, above that of the corresponding month of last year.
