REED TO RIDE REGAL SON. CUP SCRATCHING^. MELBOURNE, Oct. 30. The New Zealand jockey Roy Rood has been engaged to ride Regal Son in the Melbourne Cup, also Cavalcade in the Maribyrnong Stakes, and Movie Star in the Cantaia Stakes. H. Badger will ride Blixten in the Melbourne Cup. M. McCarten will ride Topical in the Cup, Dermid in the Cantaia Stakes, Blixten in the Derby, and Great Legand in the Maribyrnong Plate. The following scratchings are announced : —Melbourne Cup:' Movie Star. Lough Neagh, High Brae, Danilo, Mince Pie, Highway, Bayacre, Lelite, Saurian, Scalpel, Bold Boy, Ramadan and Limarch. Victoria Derby: Limarch, Danilo and Folk Lore. All engagements: Skywriter. Winooka’s dam, Kanooka, has foaled a filly to Constant Son. Limarch, with bandaged forelegs, worked on the sand at Caulfield; he is improving. Kuvera is not running in the Cup. A “veterinary surgeon hau tubed Cold Mag in an effort to overcome his wind trouble. The horse seems to be going on well. Peter Jackson has not been rehandicapped for the Melbourne Cup. Williamstown Cup weights include Gaine Carrington, 9.9; Peter Jackson, 8.11; and Movie Star, 7.12
