FAVOURITES WITHDRAWN.
POLYDORA AND TAICAKUA. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 30. The withdrawal of Polydora from the New Zealand Cup will cause consternation among many racegoers. She appeared to be all right after working this morning, but showed distinct signs of soreness late in the day, and her connections decided, as a further interruption in her preparation would be necessitated, to cancel her Cup engagement. Whether-she will bo able to start late at the meeting will not be known for a few days. Another surprise defection from tonight’s final payment was Takakua, whose trip was , cancelled owing to a suitable rider not being obtainable. Polydora has been the ruling Cup favourite for the past month, while Takakua has disputed the honour of second choice with Rocket since the Wellington mooting.
