QUEEN CARNIVAL
GARDEN PARTY. MISS JOAN RUSSELL ATTENDS. The beautiful grounds of Mr and Mrs L. B. Wall’s estate at Lower Aorangi made a splendid setting for the garden party held by the committee supporting tno candidature of Miss Joan Russell, the Farmers’ Queen, yesterday afternoon. Every provision had been made by the host and hostess at “Waikuku” for the comfort of the visitors, seats being placed under the trees and in sheltered corners, while the tennis court and miniature golf course were thrown open. The committee, consisting qf Alesdames Turner, Burmeister, Aiatheson and Lewis, Messrs D. Collis, P. G. Alildon and F. Lewis, had been busily engaged prior to the fete in erecting stalls of various descriptions and, with a fund of games and competitions to attract the attention of the patrons, a most enjoyable time resulted, while the committee gained a well merited reward financially. During the course of the afternoon Air J. Linklater, M.P., took the opportunity to introduce Miss Russell to the company and expressed the hope that the whole community would strive to return Miss Russell at the head of tho poll. SOCIAL AND DANCE. AID OF SERVICES’ QUEEN. A function which proved to be a complete success, socially as well as financially, was held in the Y.W.C.A. club rooms’ last night by the ladies’ committee of the Public Services’ Queen (Miss K. This ensemble of talented artists at present touring New Zealand have been given furlough by their principals, Alessrs J. C. Williamson and Coy., sufficiently long to enable them to remain in Palmerston North for the ball. Solos by individual members of the band will be given between dances and other entertaining novelties will be introduced during the evening. .Supper arrangements will be handled by an augmented staff and spotlight dancing will lend further charm to what will be tho brightest function of the year. Prizes are to be awarded for the best fancy costumes. POSITION OF CANDIDATES. Alore heavy voting was recorded today in the queen carnival competition.
