TRAINING AT ELLERSLIE. A BUSY MORNING. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Oct. 31. The weatlier was fine and the going firstclass for the training operations at Ellerslie this morning and there was more galloping than usual. The course proper, with tho poles 35ft out from the rails, was available and the bulk of the fast work was done on this. Wlienuakura was the first out, being sent half a mile. He covered tho first furlong in 11 4-ssecs and completed tho task in 50secs., running on solidly at the finish. The Mibchelson Cup candidates, Red Sun, Carfex and Lord Val, were associated over a round, running tho distanco in 2.4 3-5. They covered the last seven furlongs in 1.33 4-5 and the final half mile in 54sec. The first-named pair were together at the finish, with Lord Val about five lengths away. Red Sun, who had the outside running and was wide out going out of the straight, was staying on at the end, though he was being kept up to his work. Carfex also worked better than usual, his effort being the most satisfactory. Karangapai finished in front of Prince Colossus at the end of five furlongs run in 1.4 2-5, the first two taking 25sec. Aly Money and Royal Appellant did half a mile, the former finishing in front in 52sec. One of the beet efforts of the morning was registered by King Musk, who had Aipinus as a companion over seven furlongs. He ran the first three in 37 l-ssec, four in 50sec, and the full distance im 1.32 3-5. King Alusk was in front at the finish and was going much better than his companion. Alter running his first furlong in 12sec, Kiltowyn registered 50 2-ssec for half a mile and could have done better. Baroscope, who looks much improved as a result of his recent racing, strode over seven furlongs in 1.44 4-5. He is to run in the Alitchelson Cup and will be ridden by E. Manson. Chief Cook, United and Echo Song went away from the five furlong post a-nd after running their first furlong in 24 3-ssec came home in 1-3 2-5. This vvas a good effort and Chief Cook was being kicked up at the finish and was a shade in front. Grants Opal gave a safe display over tiie steeplechase fences on the flat. Zane Grey, Kairuri and Bamba started off over a round of steeplechase fences, commencing at the sod. wall. They negotiated the iences on the flat, Bamba then dropping out. The other pair continued on over the hill and finished up by again jumping the fences on the flat. Thoy both wen well, though Kairuri was inclined to be a bit careful. The arrivals this morning included View Halloo, Porotiti, Alother Superior, Spiral, Romp, Count Lendroff, All Humbug and Coachman. Alaster Brierly, who has been racing in Sydney during the last few months, returned in the charge of R. S. Bag’qy yesterday and he was out exercising this morning. AT TAKANINI. Fast work at. Takanini this morning was carried out on the inside grass track, the going being excellent. Gallant Knight was the first out and completed half a mile in 51 3-ssec. Greek Gold was a neck in front of Exaggeration at the end of six furlongs run in 1.16 1-5, the first three taking 37see. Tatyoon was three lengths clear of Arch Ruler, with Thespis half a length further back, in five furlongs run in 1.3 3-5.

Nun Nicer beat Nicodemus over four furlongs in 51 3-ssec and Cherry King completed his work by running tho last three furlongs in 38 4-sscc. Gold Pocket heat Expectancy by half a length over six furlongs, the last five taking 1.4 4-5. Speedmint and King March were sent a mile with Tavern Knight to assist fham over the last seven furlongs. The full, distance took 1.45 1-5 and tho last half mile 53 l-ssec. Tavern Knight, who was just in front of Speedmint, with King March a neck away, ran the last seven furlongs in 1.31. The best effort of the morning was registered by Gay Shiela, who beat Gay Marigold by a neck at the end of five furlongs in 1.2 1-5. Gay Sheila worked attractively and could have bettered her timo.

W. H. Jarvis arrived at Takanini from Sydney yesterday with Ammon Ra and is quartered at J. L. Gray’s stable. Solomon has been scratched for the Great Northern Guineas, Superior and Day Wind for the Welcome Stakes and Refresher for the Shorts Handicap to bo run at Ellorslie next Saturday. Rational II and Ringing Cheer did six furlongs in 1.19. Silvox did a mile and a quarter in 2.11, High Rank joining for the last mile in 1.44 1-5. Red Manfred ran a mile in 1.42 3-5, the last half taking 50 3-sscc. Guarantee, with Red Dance over the last half, ran seven furlongs in 1.29 1-5. Silent Flight, Horn’s Reef and Pin Money did half a mile brilliantly in 48 l-ssec. Copyist ran a mile in 1,46 2-5. Control and Custodian went half a mile along the back in 52sec. Croupier bested Hurlingham over five furlongs in 1.2. Heather Glow beat Falkland easily over a mile. Tout Le blond and Rocket were on terms and beat Nightflyer by three lengths over a mile and a quarter in 2.14 3-5. The pace was slow, the early part of the last mile taking 1.47 and the last half 53sec. Bright Shade, with Red Arrow over the last part, did a mile in 1.47. Monastic was brought home by Ruling Pen over seven furlongs in 1.31 1-5. Raino and Glandovcy ran half a mile in 52eee. Passion Fruit and Emotion did six furlongs in 1.18 4-5. Errantry and Master Reynard did half a mile in 50 2-ssoc. Marcus Cicero and Invoico failed to go awav together from the half mile mark, the former doing the distance in 52 3-ssec and the latter 51scc. Bright Red and St. Joan ran five furlongs in 1.3 4-5. Ranolagh beat Brambletovn over a mile in 1.47 after doing the first half in. 52eec. Metal Bird beat Manuiri over six furlongs in 1.21 2-5. Great Star, who has been on the easy list, did seven furlongs with Double Shot in 1-34. Manetho did half a mile easily in 51 3-5. The Ballanco Highweight was changed from an open to a hack event and the distance altered from 7 furlongs to 1 mile and 110 yards. The stake for the Pahiatua Cup (open) was increased from 100 to 115 sovereigns. Tho open sprint, the President’s Handicap (latterly a poorly filled event) was deleted and a Juvenile Handicap of 5 furlongs substituted (stake 55 sovs.) for two-year-olds. On the second day the Pongaroa Highweight was made a hack instead of an open event and the distance left at 7 furlongs. The stake for the Alangaliao Handicap (open) of a mile and a distance was increased from 90 to 100 sovereigns. Tho Electric Handicap (open sprint) was deleted and a Nursery Handicap substituted, for two-year-olds only (5 furlongs).
