PLUNKET SHIELD CRICKET.
SELECTION OF PLAYERS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 30. The attitude of the Nelson Association in regard to the selection of cricketers for the Plunket Shield matches was a subject which aroused a good deal of discussion at a meeting of the Wellington Cricket Association this evening when a letter was received from the Nelson Association intimating its opposition to players being selected for shield games when the Hawke Cup contests were in dispute. The reason given was that certain players would be taken away who were needed to represent their own district. Mr R. Steele said the Nelson Association was dodging its responsibilities, and other members contended that the players would be placed in an unfair position. Mi- W. J. R. Christopherson thought it unfortunate that the objection should have emanated from Nelson, for no minor association had done more to work in with Wellington. The same point, he said, might arise from any other minor body, such as Hawke’s Bay. It was finally decided to write to the minor associations inquiring their views on the question. It was decided to play the Town v. Country match at Wellington on November 29 and 30.
