MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
CHARGE OF TRESPASS. Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., presided at to-day’s sitting of the Magistrate’s Court. AVilliam Edward de Ridder, a flaxmill worker, was charged that, on September 30, at Foxton, being a person excluded under the regulations, he ha.d trespassed on the Foxton racecourse and, secondly, that he had made a bet upon the result of a race, contrary to section 52 of the Gaming Act. A plea of guilty was entered to both charges. Senior-Detective Quirke stated that accused had admitted taking several small bets on the racecourse. Accused, who had given the police every assistance, was not a bookmaker, while his work was not permanent. He had been fined £2O in 1929 for street betting. A fine of £5 was imposed on each charge, with costs 6s, the Magistrate warning defendant that he would not bo treated so leniently if he came before the Court again. A month was allowed in which to make payment. For permitting a chimney to bo on fire at bis dwellinghouse a local resident was mulct the sum of 10s and costs 3s.
