REFUELLING IN AIR.
SIR A. COBHAM’S PLANS. In connection with Sir Alan Cobham’s plan to purchase two more air liners and -convert them into refuelling tankers for a four-day non-stop flight to Australia, the aeronautical correspondent of the Sunday Dispatch says he considers that Sir Alan’s success would revolutionise flying across the world and place distance records out of reach of lone fliers. It would also put a.n end to appalling crashes due to overburdened aeroplanes and lack of speed. Sir Alan says an entirely new system of refuelling in the air enables immediate contact with the pipeline and completion of the operation in 20 minutes. He will leave in from three to six months, hence it is not possible for him to compete in the Melbourne Centenary race.
