PALESTINE RIOTS
KEPT WELL IN HAND. ARABS PROVE TROUBLESOME. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph —Copyright.) Received October 30, 1.10 p.m. JERUSALEM, Oct. 29. Baton charges dispersed a fresh attempt to penetrate the police cordon. Tlie rioters’ home-made bombs exploded harmlessly and stones were thrown and sticks were used, compelling a British non-commissioned officer to fire a few shots. Two of the rioters were killed and 15 were taken to hospital. Veiled women, screaming from the house tops, incited the mob. The whole city is filled with excited Arabs eager to demonstrate. They compelled the Jewish shops to close in the main street and smashed one Jewish establishment and compelled one British shop to put up its shutters. Members of the Arab executive have been arrested and the others have protested against the police firing at Jaffa and have demanded the release of the leaders. It was decided to protest to the Arab King and the League of Nations. The Arab shopkeepers and motor bus owners continue their strike. A flight of aeroplanes is parked in Cairo in readiness for ail emergency, hut thus far they, have not been required as the police can fully control the situation. The curfew is effective at nightfall. The Jaffa trouble is apparently quelled. All the Arab paper's have been suspended in Damascus.
