BOWLING.
DIXON CUP MATCH. The Palmerston North Club rink which won the Dixon Cup and Tucker Badges from the Oroua Club last year, and held the trophies without defeat for the remainder of that season, commenced the new series of matches on Saturday when the Foxton Club provided the challenging rink. The match resulted in an easy victory for the holders who, scoring on 15 out of 21 heads, won by 29 points to 7. A single was credited to each team on the first and second heads, but scoring from the third to the eighth brought the holders’ score to 15. Foxton got two points on the ninth, but when the fifteenth had been played they were 15 points in arrears- —21 —6. Scoring another single on the eighteenth brought their total to 7 while Palmerston North advanced to 29. The teams were: —Palmerston North: J. H. Nash, Kerslake, Ramsay, Fraser (skip); Foxton : Eruera, Heppner, ltoore, Thomson (skip). MANSON AND BARR CUP. FOXTON’S "SUCCESSFUL CHALLENGE. Lodging the first challenge of the season for the Manson and Barr Cup, a Foxton rink succeeded in wresting the trophy from the holders, Terrace End, in an interesting match on the latter’s green on Saturday afternoon. The Foxton rink consisted of Robinson, Ross, Huntley, AVood (skip), who defeated the Terrace End representatives, Pearce, Christie, Gordon, Davidson (skip), by 25 points to 22. Fortunes fluctuated all the way, the visitors finally establishing a winning lead on the 17th head.
