THE BAND CONTEST.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I am amazed that the citizens and business men of this city have not seen fit to express their views regarding the abandonment of the band contest. Surely there was an opportunity for our Citizens’ Committee and other bodies to arrange a meeting in an endeavour to have the contest here. Do 'the citizens and business men realise that bands from the whole of New Zealand compete at these contests and that a band comprises about thirty members? Their wives and friends add to the number of visitors. What a boon for our city—several hundred visitors for one week! Surely that was worth striving for, and a meeting between the interested parties might have done wonders. Surely our civic heads should have done their utmost, instead of informing the Band Association that they would have nothing further to do with the proposal.—l am, etc., BAND BOX.
