2ZO—A PROTEST.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I noticed in to-night’s “Standard” a report that the executive of the Manawatu and District Listeners’ Association are entering an emphatic protest against the unfair and unjust actions that are being taken by the P. and T. Department regarding the refusal of an extension of broadcasting time to station 2ZO. Evidently the above mentioned executive like to have everything their own way. No later than yesterday (Sunday) the announcement was made from 2ZO that a popular programme would be broadcast on Tuesday evening and at practically the last minute the artists who were asked to contribute to this programme have been told that they will have to stand aside in order to allow 2ZO to broadcast wrestling. Some of these artists have put themselves to considerable trouble and inconvenience in older to assist the executive of the Listeners’ Association and this is their reward. Why this discrimination? Would the Manawatu listeners rather listen to a wrestling bout than to a popular concert programme, or do the executive please themselves first, last, and all the time? I am of the opinion that it would be to the advantage of the majority of Manawatu listeners if a further motion were carried and forwarded to the Federation of Listeners, protesting against the unjust and unfair treatment of artists by the executive of the Manawatu and District Listeners’ Association.- —I am, etc., J. B. THOMSON. 22 Waldegrave St., 25/9/33.
