POHANGINA VALLEY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) POHANGINA, Sept. 25. The annual meeting of tho Pohangina Valley Tennis Club was held in tho hall on Saturday night. The president (Mr T. Sinclair), who occupied tho chair, congratulated tho members on the success of the past season and trusted that tho coming season would prove as successful. The secretary presented the report, which stated: “The season has been a successful one both financially and on the playing side, despite a decrease- in membership, the number enrolled being 18, as compared with 23 for tho 1931-32 season. Tho balancoshcot shows a credit balance of £1 8s 9£d. Tho club, for the third successive season, entered a team in the Manawatu Lawn ’Tennis Association’s B grado competitions. Tho team showed exceptionally fine form, losing only one game out of five and being narrowly beaten in the section final by Longburn. Enjoyable friendly games were played with the following clubs: Ashhurst, Bunnythorpe, Colyton, Woodville and Alt. Richards. Two very successful doubles tournaments were held and caused keen competition. The club held its annual dance, the function being well patronised and proving very enjoyable and a financial success, tho profit being £1 2s 6d. Tho danco fund now has a credit of £3. Tho general standard of play continues to improve under the influence of tho association competitions. Tho prospects for tho coining season are favourable, with an improved team strength and no heavy expenses. Thanks arc duo to tho ladies’ committee for tho provision of afternoon toa during matches, and to all members who have in any way assisted with work connected with matches; also to generous ear owners who have lent their cars.” The following officers were elected: Patron, Hon. J. G. Cobbc; president, Mr T. Sinclair; hon. secretary. Air W. Smart; vicepresidents, Alessrs J. Galvin, D. Watson, J. Moar, F. G. Neill and T. E. Craine; joint captains, Alisses M. Harland and N. IClink; vice-captain, Air H. Moar. It was decided to leave tho subscriptions the same as last year. It was also decided to join tho Manawatu Association again. The opening day was fixed for the first Saturday in October. A “working bee” was organised for next Saturday afternoon. Tho members regretted that so many of tho leadipg players, particularly in the men’s team, would bo missing from _ the ladder this season, owing to their having left the district, and it is hoped new members will join up and keep tho membership roll as high as possible. A meeting of tho Domain Board was held on Saturday, there being present Messrs G. H. Passey (chairman), N. AJoar (secretary and treasurer), W. Howell and C. F. Wagstaff. An apology for non-at-tendance was received from Mr T. Sinclan. It was decided to rc-turf the worn portions of tho cricket pitch, effect repairs to the tennis courts and buildings, and erect a new gate. A number of accounts wero passed for payment.
