“DARBY AND JOAN”
SWEETHEARTS WED. True love never dies —at least it did not in the case of Mr and Mrs E. E. Watson, who arrived by the Rangitata from England. Boy and girl sweethearts, they went their respetcive ways in early' life — ‘Darby to come to New Zealand, marry, and rear a family, and “Joan” to remain in the Homeland to do likewise. Half a century passed and with it “Darby’s” wife and “Joan’s’ husband. Then a letter from New Zealand to his old sweetheart brought the two into touch again, with the result that Mr Watson left New Zealand six months ago, met his boyhood sweetheart, and married her. They have come to New Zealand to live out the evening of their lis*es. “It was all verv remarkable,” said Mrs Watson. “On the way out from England we played games on deck and it seemed like being back at school together again.” Mr Watson was in the employ of Sargood, Son and Ewen in Auckland for 29 years. He has three children and twelve grandchildren. Mrs Watson has two children and three grandchildren, all in England.
