LACK OF OVERSEAS VISITORS. MANAWATU ASSOCIATION’S COMPLAINT. A meeting of the management committee of the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association was held, last evening, when there were present Mesrs J. T. McDonald, S. A. Stannard, N. Hansen and J. H. White (secretary). There was an apology lor Mr D. I. Robertson. Mr McDonald was again appointed chairman of the committee. The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association notified that applications from associations for tournament dates must be made not later than September 10 in each year. The Palmerston North Club .applied for January 8,9, 10 and 11, 1934, as the dates of its annual tournament with which would be incorporated the seventh annual tournament of the association.—Received, Mr White advising that ho had applied to the. New Zealand Association for these dates. Approval was given to the secretary’s action. The Massey College Club advised that owing to the financial stringency and the singular lack of lady players, it would be unable to affiliate with the association.—The resignation of the club was accepted with regret Mr McDonald stating that during tlio period of unafliliation members of the club would be unable to participate in tournaments unless they wero also members of other clubs. Dr E. C. Barnett wrote acknowledging his re-election as a vice-president of the association.—Received. Tlio Manawatu Club advised that Mr T. B. Worrall had been appointed its representative to the association.—Received. The Rongotea Club advised that, owing to the bad state of its courts, it desired to resign from the association for the season.—The resignation was accepted with regret. Mr Yates reported that ho attended a meeting of the sports organisations in connection with the queen carnival and advised of the business transacted. —-It was decided to advise all clubs that their assistance in supporting the Sports Queen was desired. Yankee tournaments on Labour Day were suggested. _ Messrs McDonald, Yates and Worrall were re-elected as the inter-club committee. It was decided that entries for the inter-club competitions close on October 23, the conditions to be tlio same as those of last year. The competitions are to start early in November, the exact date to bo decided later. The committee decided to communicate with the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association expressing concern that the Manawatu Association had again been overlooked in arranging the itinerary for the visiting English and Australian players. It was pointed out that Wanganui and Hastings were being visited and it was felt that the geographical position of Palmerston North warraTited a visit. It was decided to ask for a re-arrangement of the tour in favour of the Manawatu, which had not received consideration in the past.
