WEDDING.

MESSENGER—CAIRNS. A pretty wedding of much local interest was solemnised at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Palmerston North, on September 14, 1933, when Eileen Hammill, younger daughter of Mrs and the late Mr W. H. Messenger, was united in marriage to Horace James (Harold), eldest son of Mr and the late Mrs J. Cairns, Wellington. Rev. G. T. Brown was the officiating minister, Mrs Barlow presiding at the organ. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her brother-in-law, Mr J. P. Laurie, looked charming in a model gown of ivory silk crinkly crepe moulded to the hips and flaring gracefully to the ankles. A pretty bouquet of white cyclamen and camelias was carried. The lovely bridal veil was prettily draped and held in place with a coronet of orange blossom. The bridesmaids, Miss Francis Potbury (chief) and Miss Myrtle Cairns (sister of the bridegroom) were attired in crepe de chine frocks of desert glow and pastel green shades, cut on straight lines with full frilled sleeves. White felt hats were worn, brimmed with flowers the shade of their frocks, and they carried posies of freesias and polyanthus. Little Beryll Laurie (niece of the bride) looked sweet in a dainty frilled frock of lemon crepe de chine with puff sleeves. A pretty silk net cap trimmed with forget-me-nots was worn and a posy of primroses and forget-me-nots carried. Mr A. Amos was best man and Mr J. Long grooriisman. After the ceremony a reception was held at Collinson and Cunninglrame’s rooms, where the guests were received by the bride’s mother and later the usual toasts were honoured. The happy couple left later for the north, the bride wearing a smart frock of brown silk maroeain with hat and coat to match. The bride and bridegroom received many beautiful presents which showed the esteem in which they are held.
